Going to drive a Kia Soul from San Diego, CA to Kelowna, Canada. Will it survive?
So I'm going to attend the Kelowna branch of UBC, packing up my lively hood into 45 cubic feet of Kia Soul. It's not a very powerful car but has decent gas mileage. My only concern is that will it be able to get up the Grapevine in California and Mt. Ashland in Oregon without copping out half way up the hill. =/ Will my little Soul survive?
Strangely this is more iffy to me than whether or not my little SoCal car will survive a Canadian winter. BATTERY BLANKET FTW!!!
I've lived in Kelowna in the past and I am a Canadian. I just have a car that was made in SoCal that has never seen below 15C in it's single year of life. Again, I'm more concerned about whether or not it can get up a LOONNGG hill, not if it'll freeze.
This is why you have a shift lever: if it bogs down going up a grade, drop down a gear. Or two, if need be. (If you have the automatic, you might want to turn off the overdrive.) I've driven up mountains in cars with similarly modest power, without issues.
Part 1 - Colin M. is the genius behind the UBC ELECRIC CAR CLUB trip
