Are credit cards going obsolete?
A New Payment Method That Might Make Credit Cards Obsolete
Inside Contactless, a leading provider of advanced, open-standard contactless chip technologies, and First Data, a global leader in electronic commerce and payment processing services, today announced they have signed a three-year agreement to develop contactless payment stickers, which First Data will market as GO-Tag products. On the agreement, INSIDE is to supply the MicroPass payment sticker prelams only to First Data-qualified card manufacturers for production.
The agreement leverages the core technology from INSIDE Contactless and the issuing and transaction processing power of First Data. GO-Tag products will be marketed by First Data to financial institutions, major merchants in the U.S., and other distribution channels in a variety of form factors.
The general manager of Mobile Commerce and Point of Sale Solutions for First Data, Barry McCarthy, said that "First Data's GO-Tag Solution represents an important step in the evolution from today's plastic cards and fobs, offering a bridge to the future of mobile payments". "Our partnership with INSIDE Contactless enables us to offer consumers an opportunity to turn just about any personal item, from a mobile phone to an employee ID badge, into a payment device."
"This agreement highlights the versatility of our MicroPass platform to support a variety of contactless payment applications and form factors, including stickers," says Charles Walton, executive vice president of payments for INSIDE Contactless.
Since Contactless credit card technology becomes more common in the marketplace, it would be a good idea to update your restaurant POS system with them in the near future. Is there a template for a POS System for MS Access in a Restaurant version?
I would like to find a template for Microsoft Access so that I can control my restaurant using a POS-based system. Thanks.

Access is not the most stable database/application out there. It may work just fine if you have only a single terminal, but you may find that it crashes a bit too often if you have two or more stations AND you run a fairly high volume at certain times of the week. Another point to consider is PCI compliance... the credit card industry is rightfully strict about how CC data is stored.
There are some really inexpensive Restaurant POS systems out there. Many of them store the data in an MS SQL Server express database (the DB is free) or another open source/stable DB. I resell restaurant software that is really full featured and costs $599 per station. If you have a really simple operation, you might be able to find something even cheaper (in the $250 to $350 range). I really think you will be far better off with a true POS application rather than an MS Access template.
