Basic Things That You Should Know About Credit Card Readers
Card readers work by reading the information of different cards such as credit, debit, and smartcards. A Credit Card Reader, in its most basic form, consists of magnetic stripe reader, a keypad for numbers, and a small display. Wireless card readers have a built-in printer while the traditional ones are attached with a separate printer. It works the same was a how a cellular phone works. Wireless credit card readers, also known as handheld or portable card readers, use the same technology of phones to send and receive data from credit card processors.
Over the years, the popularity of handheld readers has increased. For one, a portable Credit Card Reader offers convenience to both the customer and the business owner. For instance, if you are a customer of a restaurant and about to pay your bill, would not you be worried if the waiter takes your credit card so that he can swipe it in the counter where the credit card reader is located? Customers feel more secure and safer when they can see what your waiter will do to their credit card rather than when the waiter ‘disappears’ with their cards. In the case of wireless terminals, the waiter swipes the card into the terminal and then the terminal store the information in its memory. Then the card reader sends the information via cell towers to the credit card processor of the merchant. It only takes three to five seconds to verify your data and have the transaction approved or rejected. After which, you will receive whether the transaction is approved or rejected. When it is approved, an approval code will also be sent, which you will find on the receipt.
Do not worry about the price of credit card terminals because they are not very costly, with the basic terminals falling between $150 and $300 per unit. Those with printers can range from $200 to $600, while the wireless terminals can reach up to $1000. Instead of opting for as 48-month lease offered by most providers, it is better if you can buy the terminal outright. Spending a unit or two is totally worth your money because of the various benefits that your business can gain for having these terminals. If you decide to purchase your terminals from your merchant account provider, they will already program the units for you before you use it. Often, they will also offer discounts since you will be closely working with each other for the years to come. You may also wish to buy online, like in in http://www.usbswiper.com. If you choose to buy online, make sure that you are dealing with reputable suppliers when doing so.
Where to buy Paper-based magnetic stripe cards?
I need blank paper-based magnetic stripe cards for my university Msc project , I'm living in the Manchester and searched a lot , but cards which I found were all PVC-based .
Anyone knows where can I order them online ?
Thanks in advance
I read a Hacker site years ago, they where using cassette tape ribbons and gluing them to fake credit cards ( or was it a movie ?) .
Edit, did a quick search and found the plastic ones, the tape looked wider than a cassette tape but not as wide as the US 8 track tapes, maybe a reel to reel tape and glue them to a card ?
