The Samsung CLX 2160N printer is one of the newest electronics playthings out there today. It isn't just a color laser printer. It's an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny Liliputian version of a color printer. Compared to the rest of Samsung's line of printers, this one is like Tiny Tom. Not only is it Samsung's smallest but is officially known as the world's smallest color laser printer. It has plenty of MFP qualities although not all. The best toner for this printer is the Samsung CLX 2160 N printer toner cartridge.
MFP is a short term for multi-functioning printer, which means it has different functional qualities. The Samsung CLX 2160N printer has qualities such as a color laser printer, a scanner, and a copier. Like most Samsungs printers this printer does not have a fax function (reasons will be stated below). It is definitely not a cheap kind of printer, however you don't need to take out a loan to buy one. Note that the N in the product title of Samsung CLX 2160N means that this is a network-ready product. It can be used by all computers on that same network simply by plugging it directly into a router (a network switch like device).
It's a well known fact that printer manufacturers rely on you buying their Samsung CLX 2160 N cartridge (consumables) to make up for the markups they no longer make on their hardware. Heck, a company like Samsung will have dozens of toner cartridges alone to go with their large selection of models. While other printers sell you all colors in a single package, this one lets you buy them one by one. If you print in B&W only, you only buy black toner. If you do color, you start off with all 3 colors. Very often, when you print you use up one or two colors more than the others. By buying them one by one, you buy just what you need and you don't have to throw away half of the blue you bought just because you're low on yellow.
Knowing the Samsung CLX-2160N uses 4 toners, the speed for the color laser is 4ppm in A4. It is important to realize that there are two different types of print out times, color and the mono (a fancy word for black and white). The print out time for the color is 26 seconds. The print out time for the mono is 46 seconds. The manual however is duplex.
The function of a scanner in Samsung CLX 2160N is you put a paper in the scanner and it turns it into an image which you can see on your computer. This scanner has a 1,200x500 dpi Resolution. It scans to USB/Folder/Application/Network.
The copy has two different speeds. Slow and fast. Sorry, just joking. One speed is for Color and the other for mono (black and white). Again, the speeds are very similar to the printing function. In color mode you get 4ppm for an A4 sized document. In B&W you get 16ppm for an A4 document. These are pretty impressive numbers for a machine of this size. Measuring from a standing start figuratively speaking, you wait 18 and 45 seconds respectively for the first copy to print out.
Sorry. Samsung just couldn't fit the fax function into the little guy. Fax needs a little more space and Samsung wanted to keep this machine at the size you see it now. Plus, faxing costs a bit more and they wanted to keep the price at this point too. Hey, you can always scan and email an image to a fax forwarding service. They're dirt cheap and incredibly persistent if the person you want to send a fax to has one of those on/off fax machines.
A Samsung CLX-2160N printer is costly (again, everything is relative), compared to the big bulky printers but as they say, comparing apples to apples, there isn't an apple out there to compare this unit to. I guess it comes to down to what you want and what you're willing to pay for it. The price varies from a high of around UDS$420 to under USD$200 the last time I looked at Egghead.
Buying a Samsung CLX 2160 N printer toner cartridge separately will cost you around USD $20. The all in one set of rainbow toners for this particular unit will set you back around USD$70. Remember that there are a lot of web stores out there that have more competitive prices than your local business supply shop. Shop around for the best deal. Finally, remember that Samsung is constantly bringing out new products. This particular Samsung is one of many of this year's newest models. What is the best all-in-one scanner/printer/copier or scanner (not all-in-one) for scanning books? I'm going to digitize my library and wanted some suggestions (suggestions people, don't get all tech-preachy on me).
The best scanner for what you want to do that is inexpensive and very well rated is the HP 3110. That one has a special opening for books. It also does very hi-res scans. But for a book, 300 is good enough and if their are pictures a 600dpi setting is perfect.
Now, I suggest a separate scanner because it does the job required.
