Would I have problems with running Vista Home Premium if I buy a laptop with only 1 GB installed memory?

I am interested in buying an HP DV 2610. I have heard that if I have anything below 1 GB of memory Vista will keep crashing on me. Is this correct?
This particular model laptop has all the requirements I am otherwise looking for. Should I have it upgraded to at least 2 GB?
Here are some of the other specs:
Processor Brand: AMD
Processor Class: Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology Processor
Processor Number: TL-58
Front Side Bus: 1.6 GHz
Mobile Technology: Turion
L2 Cache Size: 2 x 512 KB
Memory Type: DDR2-SDRAM
Installed Memory: 1 GB
Maximum Memory: 4 GB
Memory Slots Total: 2
Memory Slots Available: 0
Total Hard Drive Capacity: 160 GB
Drive Controllers: SATA-150
Rotational Speed: 5400 RPM

I am going to use it mainly for Internet and MS-Office stuff. I will also run statistical packages such as SAS or SPSS.
Thanks!

1 gb will normally work fine for most applications, but as another answer said, 2gb is better, even Microsoft recommends 2gb to be able to take full advantage of Vista.
You can always upgrade the memory later as well.
