How to Choose the Right Retail Point of Sale Dealer for Your Business
Retail POS System Overview
Since retail POS systems is a very important part of your business, choosing for a POS dealer is a big decision - greater in many ways than the decisions you make about your POS software and hardware. Price might be an issue, but in many cases you get what you pay for, so it's very important to do your research before going to a POS dealer. In any case, you have to make sure if your POS dealer is dedicated to and capable of supporting your business with any problems that might occur.
Support
As we all know, customer support is very important to the success of a POS installation. Make sure you know exactly what your POS dealer provides in terms of response times, replacement policies, and telephone support. This is the single most important aspect of a POS purchasing decision.
Installing POS
A good quality installation of your POS systems lasts longer than the average installtions. Qualified installers will not take a standardized approach to installation: first, they have to analyze your needs, test your existing infrastructure, including power lines, and they make sure you get a system that exactly matches your business needs. During the first week or two of using a POS system will determine whether it fits your needs or not, so a well-tested installation is vital. Ask how often the POS dealer will be on site during and after your launch - only until the system is up and running, or will they visit afterwards and answer possible problems that may have arised?
Experience with POS
As with any major business purchase, potential vendors' experience in the industry is also important. But with POS systems you can go farther: know how much experience the vendor has in installing systems to other retail establishments with the same business as yours. Dry cleaners have different needs than convenient stores, and a self-service cafeteria varies considerably from a high class bar restaurant. Good POS salespeople will definitely ask you about your business, your particular needs, then provide a solution that is appropriate for you.
Facilities
Taking a trip to POS dealers' facilities can be a great way for you to know how they operate. You will be able to check out their repair shop and get a sense of how busy they are. You may want to ask for an organizational chart or a tour of their help desk. When it comes to your support needs, distance may or may not be that important to you - if you're planning to rely on telephone support and shipping components back for repair, it will not matter, but if you plan to have field technicians to come to you, distance from the vendor can be a hassle.
System Demonstrations
To make sure that the system is easy to learn and operate, try it out for yourself. Some vendors do live demos, which gives you the added advantage of being able to see how the hardware is set up and how will it look in your location. Others will invite you to test the system at their place, which gives you that quick tour at their facilities we've discussed earlier. Either way, we strongly recommend an in-person demo especially if you don't know how to operate one.
References
Another well known way to investigate POS dealers that's right for your business is to ask for references to other customers - youhave to make sure that you're asking for references with the same business line as yours. Of course, you will be referred to the vendor's most satisfied customers, but you can still learn a bit from them. Below are a list of sample question you may want to ask them:
- How has the POS system affected your business?
- Did you wish you had done differently?
- Ever needed any support or repairs? Was the POS vendor responsive?
- Do you know of any one else who uses the same system? -- By this you can get additional references you can call who may be more honest about the quality of the system.
And don't forget that you can also ask for references that dislikes the dealer. Why? Every business has it's own faults, which means they also get dissatisfied customers from time to time. By this, you could learn what to look for and what to watch out for.
Return policies
You may get a return policy but that depends on the manufacturer, not all of them issues warranties that ables to get repairs or replacements, and even returning an POS equipment is more difficult. Many POS dealers charge expensive restocking fees ($500 and up) for returns on complete systems; while some vendors allows you to exchange hardware for others, but some do not accept returns at all. Again, make sure you review policies before signing a contract with them.

Travel trailer power converter wires both black. does it matter which wires to pos or neg?
2 black wires going into power converter, does it make any difference which is wired as positive and which is negative since it is an a/c circuit?
Yes it matters. Their has to be something that says which one is which. Look closely at the wires and see if they have any +/- signs on them or anything written. Check where the wires enter the converter, and the bottom for a wiring diagram. If you cant find anything anywhere, then try to download an owners manual.
