4 PCI Compliance Levels and the Ways to Determine Them
There are 4 levels of payment card industry data security standard (PCI DSS) compliance, these are the level 1, level 2, level 3, and level 4, all depending on the number of visa transactions catered per year.
The payment card industry data security standard (PCI DSS) are qualifications to certify that all companies that handle credit card information will have a confidential and safe environment. It applies to all merchants, regardless of the quantity of transactions made in a given time. They are what we call the compliance levels, it is related to the amount of transactions done in a 12-month period. There 4 are four levels and they are differentiated in the following manner:
Business owners can be classifed into one of the 4 merchant levels in relation to their visa transaction volume over a 12-month period. It is based on the aggregate quantity of visa tansactions be it credit, debit or prepaid from a DBA. If there are situations like a merchant company has more than one DBA, the visa holders take into consideration the volume of transaction that are processed by a corporation to choose the validation level. If the information is not aggregated, acquirers will continue to rely on the DBA’s individual ransaction volume to identify which validation level.
Merchant level 1
Level 1 merchants are those who process at least 6 million visa transactions annually or any merchant considered as level 1 by any Visa location. The requirements for this level for validation are annual report by a qualified security assessor (QSA), quarterly network scan by an approved scan vendor (ASV), and an attestation of compliance form.
Merchant level 2
Merchant at level 2 are processing a least 1 million to 6 million Visa transaction annually, regardless of any acceptance channel. The requirements for this for validation are annual Self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ), a quarterly network scan by an approved scan vendor (ASV), and an attestation of a compliance form.
Merchant level 3
Level 3 merchants are those who process 20,000 to 1 million Visa business transactions per year. For validated, the requirements needed are the annual self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ), quarterly nework scan by an approved scan vendor (ASV), and an attestation of compliance form.
Merchant level 4
Merchants under level 4 are those who are processing at least 20,000 visa business transactions and below per year and all other mechants who are processing up to 1 million visa transactions annually, regardless of an acceptance channel. The requirements needed in this level for validation are the recommended annual self-assessment questionnaire, the quarterly network scan by the approved scan vendor that is applicable, and the compliance validation requirements imposed by the acquirer.
All merchants are compliant, they must comply with all the requirements and meet the deadline, though the level 4 ones should refer to their banks for the specific requirements.
PCI compliance is one thing that you can’t do without, but a PCI fee is one thing you shouldn’t have. You need to look for a provider that can offer you a no PCI fee merchant account. To understand more on how this is possible, check on Take Cards Today.
